“Features all the passion and swashbuckling that fans of this historical fantasy series have come to expect.”—People

1778: France declares war on Great Britain, the British army leaves Philadelphia, and George Washington’s troops leave Valley Forge in pursuit. At this moment, Jamie Fraser returns from a presumed watery grave to discover that his best friend has married his wife, his illegitimate son has discovered (to his horror) who his father really is, and his beloved nephew, Ian, wants to marry a Quaker. Meanwhile, Jamie’s wife, Claire Randall, and his sister, Jenny, are busy picking up the pieces.

The Frasers can only be thankful that their daughter Brianna and her family are safe in twentieth-century Scotland. Or not. In fact, Brianna is searching for her own son, who was kidnapped by a man determined to learn her family’s secrets. Her husband, Roger, has ventured into the past in search of the missing boy . . . never suspecting that the object of his quest has not left the present. Now, with Roger out of the way, the kidnapper can focus on his true target: Brianna herself.

Outlander

I am obsessed with the Outlander series. Truly!! I read all 8 back to back and can hardly wait for #9!! Whatever will I do until it comes out?

Shay Shay S

Book 8

While I have enjoyed reading these 8 novels, I feel like the author ultimately “lost” Claire’s character. Claire’s unique way of looking at the world which was so riveting in the first 3 books, and her 20th century outlook and voice, has been long silenced. I am tired of hearing her repetitious trite words....”I love you Jamie”....and “Sweetheart” when referring to her patients. Equally annoying is her ‘oath’ constantly thrown in the reader’s face as an excuse for her own inaction. Additionally, Lord John’s character has lost his depth of compassion, and he has become superficial. I hope the 9th book will surprise me and bring the characters back to the outstanding depth and realistically human thoughts, feelings, hopes and dreams that they possessed early on and which made reading about them worthwhile. Frankly, throughout...I wanted to get back to Bree, Roger, Jim, and Mandy in the 1980s and their more interesting plot line, hoping for SOME research on their part that would make the plot development interesting and to introduce clues in support of what was happening in 1778. Unfortunately, that never materialized.

What it ended there????

Excellent book. The series have been extremely good. I had started with watching the first three parts of outlander on TV. Then decided to read all the books before I watched more. I love seeing the sequencing difference in the two. I can’t wait to watch the other parts of Outlander and compare more. Both are highly recommended!!! The reading first then watching gives it a perspectively difference that makes since for both. Enjoy!!!

Outlander is like a glimpse into another life.

Reading the Outlander novels is not like reading a story, though there is a story line, it's like having the rare privilege of looking into another persons life. The story is fascinating, but what makes it readable after 1000+ pages is the author makes you apart of the ordinary in extraordinary circumstance. I can't wait until the ninth book is finished.

My sister-in-law recommended that I read the first book, "Outlander", because she thought I might enjoy reading the novel. That was an understatement. I have read each of Diana Gabaldon's novels repeatedly and often. "Outlander" itself has been read so often, the book is falling apart. Her most recent novel, "Written in My Own Heart's Blood" is a brilliant addition to the series. I have thoroughly enjoyed reading Claire and Jamie's continuing love story and I will be anxiously awaiting the next installment in their timeless adventures. I was especially heartened by the ending to this most recent novel. I don't want to spoil the ending for others, but I can't wait for another novel! A little more proofreading would have helped...

While the excellence of language and characters that I have come to expect from a Gabaldon novel are here, along with the compelling story, this one is full of holes and inconsistencies. Characters emerge in places where they have no reason to be. And they behave in ways that their access to information does not justify. I do sincerely hope that we have not heard the last from Fraser's Ridge. There do seem to be a few tantalizing threads left untucked. It would be a shame to loose touch with such treasured friends. But I would hope for more in the way of continuity moving forward...

Too Long...Not Long Enough!

I have loved reading about Claire and Jamie since I first read Outlander in 2000. And waited, sometimes rather impatiently, for the next book to see where DG is taking them. I am in awe of her talent, in drawing pictures with words that has me following the story but like I'm watching it while it's actually taking place! I would encourage anybody to pick up her books and immerse themselves in her books...the historical facts alone draw me to a deeper love of history--which I've had since I was in school, a goodly number of years ago! I assure you, you won't regret it....Brava, Diana Gabaldon!

Does not Disappoint...

I have just finished Written In My Own Heart's Blood and, as with previous Diana Gabaldon novels, I am left with a feeling of melancholy knowing that I will have to wait years to catch up with Jamie and Claire! It would be truly wondrous if Ms. Gabaldon could write an Outlander novel each year it that is obviously impossible given the depth of characters, array of history and stunning imagery we are awarded by the wait between novels. This tome is a stunning continuation of one of the best historical fiction / romance series in print. For those of you who have yet to read Outlander, I find myself jealous of you...for you have a whole world to discover!

I just re-read this novel and it was just as brilliant the second time around! The

Reading the Outlander novels is not like reading a story, though there is a story line, it's like having the rare privilege of looking into another persons life.

Outlander Series

I just re-read this novel and it was just as brilliant the second time around! The

Loved this book start to finish!

This book zeros in on the main characters who by this 8th novel I am truly passionate about! I always have to read the Outlander books more than once because I speed read to find out how things shake out. I was very pleased at how this book ended!

Not as good

This is my least favorite of the entire series. It didn't hold my attention and storyline said not flow like the others. I was hoping to be taken away with this book I have waited patiently for, but it wasn't worth the wait.

More please

Love the book, all the books! Wonderful characters I will miss till there is another book.

All of the Outlander books

These books are absolutely marvelous! I have read them all, and will reread them many times I'm sure. I sincerely hope there will be more books in this series!!! We need to know about Fergus and Marsalis' new baby and how they are doing; also Roger & Brianna; Ian & Rachel; and most importantly more of Jamie and Claire! Please, please, please!

outlander series # 8

Written in my own hearts blood

Have read this series many times, most recently the complete set in the past year to ready for this newest book. Diana Gabaldon is an amazing storyteller taking her characters through decades of history with facts and storyline totally involving the reader in the many adventures of the "family." Am looking forward to her next book in this series.

Outlander

I began listening to audio books around 2006 and the first one I picked out at the library was "A Breath of Snow and Ashes". I believed it to be just a long audio book. I was very disappointed when I found out it was one of a series and that I had missed the beginning. So, I searched till I found them all and started at the beginning. This has been the best of my listening pleasure. I sincerely hated to see it end. The reader used was perfect for this series. Unfortunately I now live in Ecuador and had to actually READ the last book. Loved it!

Love this series!

I am so sad this book has ended! I hope the next one doesn't take a long time! These books are amazing and I love sharing them with fellow readers, the history, the love story, the adventure, it's a must read!!

So-so

I have read and re-read the Outlander series, and loved it. This latest seems like a placeholder. In almost a thousand pages, I kept expecting Brianna and her family to arrive, or something exciting. This was my least favorite in the series.

Written In My Own Hearts Blood

This book certainly carries the story and characters along. It doesn't have the violence and intense drama of Outlander but it is wonderful to have Jamie and Claire back in our lives. Look forward to No 9.

This was wonderful from beginning to end. All Jamie and Claire fans will be happy. I am so looking forward to the TV SERIES!

Diana did it again. She gave us another amazing book. I'm not sure I can wait another 4 years for book 8.

Boring, boring, boring

Everyone has a problem, everyone is after Jamie, and on and on it goes. This book was so boring I couldn't even finish reading it! It deserves zero stars.

Written in My Own Heart's Blood

I love the Outlander series, and couldn't wait to read "Written in My Own Heart's Blood". However, I was disappointed in it! First of all, not enough Jamie and Claire, too much John and Hal. Just not as good as previous books!

FANTASTIC!!! I cried at the very end. Diana Gabaldon is a fabulous writer and this series just keeps getting better and better. It's going to be a long 4 years..... :(

A timeless story

Oh, I waited such a long time for this book!! I am trying to go slow so I won’t finish, but I just cannot stop. It is quite the best she has written. How does she do that? Now I am just eagerly awaiting an audiobook narrated by the divine Ms. Davina Porter so I can listen to the story again.

All-time Favorite!

Make sure you read this series in order, beginning with Outlander. It is wonderful! If you are a fan of historical fiction and/or romance and/or adventure, this is a must-read series. I have recommended it to dozens of people through the years, and only one was not instantly a die-hard fan. (I still don't understand that girl - lol). Enjoy!

This is the best of the series since Outlander. Makes me weep to think that there is only one last entry in the series.

You have to read . . .

Start with the first book in the series and you will be hooked! I am anxiously awaiting the next book, my fingernails suffer ;-).

I love the outlander series of books. My cousin's wife had me read the first one a few years ago. I can not put these books down. I read them over and over again. I love Jaime and Claire's timeless love affair.
